Ana Carabello spun a one-hit gem and May River found its offense in the late innings of a 6-0 home win over rival Bluffton on Wednesday to complete a sweep of the two-game Region 7-4A softball series.
Carabello struck out seven and limited the Bobcats to one hit and two walks, neutralizing a dangerous Bluffton lineup. Alyssa Rose had the lone single for Bluffton.
The Sharks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Macey Dowe drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first, took two bases on a passed ball, and scored on a Reilly Wake groundout.
Bluffton’s Parker Ray settled in and matched zeroes with Carabello until the fourth, when the Sharks put together four hits to score three runs and break it open. Giovana Rodriguez led off with a double, and Casey Laing followed with a single to set up Ruthie Roman’s two-run double to left. Carabello came through later in the inning with an RBI single to make it 4-0.
May River added two more in the fifth when Laing doubled home Dowe and Wake, and Carabello finished off the shutout and the sweep.
Laing was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a double, and Roman was 1-for-3 with a two-run double to lead the Sharks at the plate.
May River (6-2, 4-0) hosts Oceanside Collegiate for a non-region game Thursday before starting a region series at Beaufort High on Monday.
Bluffton (3-2, 2-2) hosts Battery Creek for a non-region contest Friday.
