After a lopsided loss at Beaufort High last week, John Paul II boys soccer served some sweet revenge Friday, knocking off the Eagles 2-1 at home.
Just seven days removed from a 7-0 loss to the Eagles, JPII overcame an early 1-0 deficit to stun the Class 4A Eagles in the rematch.
The Golden Warriors earned themselves plenty of scoring opportunities early on, but Beaufort’s Christian Alvarado Ruiz scored against the flow of play to take a 1-0 lead. However, JPII’s dynamic duo of Mark Knight and Malone Kinard-Huisinger brought the home side back after halftime, scoring a goal each to notch the come-from-behind 2-1 win.
Austin Floyd and Ben Quinty excelled on the defensive end for the Golden Warriors along with Ben Richardson in his return to action. Captain and goalkeeper Evan Slusne made some athletic saves in net, recording six stops in the victory.
John Paul II (4-1, 2-0) hosts Bridges Prep on Thursday.
Beaufort High (2-3, 0-1) battles James Island in a home region contest Tuesday.
