Kylie Rast delivered a standout one-hit, 14-strikeout performance on the mound, and Beaufort High softball cruised to an 8-2 home victory over John Paul II on Friday.
The Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead, scoring two runs in the first inning and four more in the third thanks to a two-run Kyrsten Cruikshank double before tacking on another in the fourth on a Nia Holmes line drive to center.
John Paul II found the scoreboard in the top of the sixth, but the Eagles got the run right back on a Nezi’le Chinchilla triple to make it 8-1. The visitors plated a second run in the seventh but couldn’t draw any closer.
Holmes led the charge at the plate to support Rast’s phenomenal outing, going 2-for-4 and picking up three RBIs. Chinchilla and Madison Sanchez recorded a pair of hits each.
Beaufort High (2-1) gets region play started with a home game against James Island on Monday.
