Connor McDonnell and Tommy Stauffer combined on a three-inning no-hitter, and Hilton Head Prep baseball made quick work of its rivals at home Thursday, routing Hilton Head Christian Academy 15-0.
The Dolphins plated four in the first inning and added another in the second to take a 5-0 lead. After Stauffer came in to toss a perfect third, HHP laid down the hammer, sending 10 across to cap off an impressive all-around performance.
McDonnell and Stauffer got the job done on the mound, surrendering no hits while combining for five strikeouts.
Freshman Steele Burd went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lead the flaming-hot offense. Reese Malon and Phoenix Betancourt each racked up a pair of hits including a double.
“Lots of positive takeaways today, but I was most impressed with Tommy’s performance on the mound,” head coach Chris Wells said. “He looked great, was really sharp and efficient. We need more outings like that from the rest of our staff.”
Hilton Head Prep (2-0, 2-0) hosts Peachtree Academy (Ga.) on Saturday.
