HSBB: Ten Lowco hoops stars selected for SCISA All-Star rosters

After putting on a dazzling show this hoops season, 10 area players and two coaches were selected to participate in the 2021 SCISA North-South All-Star games on Saturday at Orangeburg Prep — and the list hasn’t been finalized yet, so there could be more local all-stars on the way.

An incredible five members of Hilton Head Christian Academy’s state championship girls squad were voted to the 12-player 2A South roster, with head coach Kenny Conroy tabbed to lead the all-star team.

Senior superstar and McDonald’s All-American nominee Dior Shelton headlines the stellar cast after willing her Eagles to an incredible third straight title, scoring 17 points per game in the state tournament to clinch the crown. The Region 4-2A Player of the Year is joined by sophomore glue girl Abby Peduzzi and the electric freshman guard tandem of Devon Yarde and Molly Smith.

After shattering her school’s single-game scoring record earlier this year, sophomore Beaufort Academy standout Mike’Ala Washington joins the spectacular South squad.

John Paul II head coach Mac Tamminen will oversee the 13-man 2A South boys all-star team along with Bethesda Academy’s Clevan Thompson. Tamminen will coach his own gifted scorer in junior Mark Knight, who put up 13.5 points per game while captaining his Golden Warriors to a postseason victory.

The JPII coach-player duo is joined by Hilton Head Prep’s outstanding junior forward JJ Hayes, who averaged a double-double with 18.8 points and 10.9 rebounds a contest in his first season as a Dolphin.

Trusty Beaufort Academy forward and Methodist University commit Ben VanHise earned a nod along with decorated Hilton Head Christian Academy senior JP Peduzzi and eighth-grade Colleton Prep phenom Melvin Teal, Jr.

The girls game is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Orangeburg Prep, and the boys game will follow at noon.
