It was a wild Friday night in the Lowco. We’ll have full recaps and multimedia throughout the weekend, but here’s your first look at the high school football action featuring Lowco area teams in SCHSL Week 6 and SCISA Week 10.
SCHSL WEEK 6
Whale Branch 33, Battery Creek 21: Jaylen Reeves scored three rushing TDs and sealed the win with an interception to help the Warriors hold off a tough Dolphins team to remain undefeated.
Carolina Forest 40, Beaufort High 20: The Eagles couldn’t slow down Panthers star Luke Janack, who rushed for three TDs to help send Beaufort High to its first loss in a non-region road game.
May River at Orangeburg-Wilkinson, cancelled: The hits keep coming for the Sharks, who had last week’s game against Hilton Head High lost to COVID-19 and now had a valuable non-region road test wiped out when an electrical malfunction at the Bruins’ stadium sent the Sharks home early.
SCISA WEEK 10
Hilton Head Christian Academy 49, Hilton Head Prep 0: The Eagles dominated on both sides of the ball to win the final cross-island clash between the rivals before HHCA moves to Bluffton and finish the regular season undefeated.
Thomas Heyward 40, Greenwood Christian 13: The Rebels rolled up a quick 40-0 lead and handed it off to the reserves to coast to a ninth consecutive victory.
John Paul II 33, Beaufort Academy 32: The Golden Warriors scored with 14 seconds left to take the lead, then stopped a successful Hail Mary short of the goal line to preserve the win, but BA will make the playoffs while JPII misses out in a three-way tiebreaker for the final two spots.
