It wasn’t pretty out of the gate, but the Hilton Head High Seahawks dug in and got the job done to survive and advance in the SCHSL Class 4A volleyball second round.
After an early scare, Hilton Head High battled back to defeat South Aiken in four sets Thursday, clinching their spot in the 4A Lower State finals.

The Seahawks were hammered 25-13 in the first, but quickly turned it around with three decisive set wins (25-15, 25-17, 25-14) to earn the right to host Aiken on Monday night for a trip to the state championship.
Hilton Head star Ady O’ Grady led the way, earning 14 kills and two aces. Kenzie Ryan added 13 kills plus three aces and 12 digs, and Ava Edri recorded nine kills. Makenna Mason continued her outstanding play at setter, putting up 38 assists, eight digs, and three blocks, while Abby Jacobs tallied seven kills.
If the Seahawks can conquer the Hornets on Monday night, they’ll travel to Irmo High School on Thursday to face Indian Land or the winner of the Pickens/Eastside upper state semifinal, which was postponed to Friday due to concerns from Hurricane Zeta.
The Seahawks are trying to reach the state championship game for the first time since winning the Class 3A title in 2015.
