After a dominant regular season, May River’s girls golf team flexed some postseason muscle Monday.
Behind individual champion Kylie Bowes’ blistering 67, the Sharks fired an eye-popping team score of 310 to cruise to a 33-shot win in the Class 4A Lower State Qualifier at the Country Club of South Carolina. Hilton Head High (357) finished third, 14 shots behind runner-up North Myrtle Beach (343). Bluffton (373) was fifth, while Beaufort High (475) failed to make the top seven and qualify for the Class 4A State Championships.
Kylie Bowes won medalist honors by seven shots over North Myrtle Beach’s Cara Hilburn, while her sister, Sydney Bowes, shot 75 to finish third. Hannah Harris carded an 83, and Robbin Zetrouer posted 85 to contribute to the Sharks’ impressive team total, and Hailey Aipperspach shot 90 to round out the lineup.
Alexia Milbrandt led the third-place Seahawks with an 81, followed by McKenzie Bradley (89), Eliza Jane Coulter (90), Grace Weismantel (97), and Catherine Gavin (99).
The Bobcats qualified for state despite having just four golfers, as Jennifer Richardson (91) led the way for Bluffton, followed closely by Sarah Lazier (93), Anna LaPour (94), and Lucia Serratelli (95).
The top seven teams and three individuals from non-qualifying teams will compete with their Upper State counterparts in the Class 4A State Championship on Monday and Tuesday at Shipyard Golf Club on Hilton Head Island.
