HSSWIM: Bengals edge Seahawks for region titles

Newcomer Lucy Beckham High School ended Hilton Head High’s reign over Region 7-4A  swimming Saturday, edging the Seahawks for both the boys and girls team titles.

The Seahawk boys won seven of the 11 events, including two wins each for Cohen Bruner (100 free, 200 free) and Tommy Hughson (200 IM, 500 free), but the Bengals used their depth to rack up 515 points and edge HHIHS by 11 despite not winning a single event.

HHIHS also had a champion in Dylan Magda (100 breast) and took the 200 free and 400 free relays. Beaufort High’s Samuel Marrero (50 free, 100 back) also won two events, and teammate James Stone won the 100 fly. Bluffton’s boys claimed the 200 medley relay.

On the girls’ side, Beckham won six of the 11 races, while the Seahawks won the other five, but the Bengals’ 593 points were enough to beat HHIHS (532).

Skylar Bruner won the 200 and 500 free, Katie Lyons took the 100 breast, and the Seahawks won the 200 and 400 free relays.
