Bluffton’s girls took the team title and May River’s girls and Beaufort High’s boys each claimed runner-up finishes in USC Beaufort High School Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.
The Bobcats had six runners finish in the top 20 of the 76-runner field for the girls race, finishing with 47 points to edge rival May River (61) for the title.
May River’s Anya Arroyo blazed to a 5K time of 18:46 to win the individual title by more than a minute over Fort Dorchester’s Theresa Studley (19:56), while teammate Victoria Sosa (20:50) was fourth and Beaufort High’s Anna Brown (20:58) was fifth.
The first Bobcat across the line was Ava Gerschutz (21:04) in seventh, but she was followed in close succession by teammates Kaitlyn McDonagh (21:06) in eighth, seventh-grader Aubrey Sampson (21:22) in 10th, Penelope Roman (21:25) in 11th, and Katie Sanofsky (22:41) in 16th.
Beaufort High’s Nash Mills ran 16:16 to win the boys race by seven seconds over Richmond Hill’s Corey Adamski, but the Wildcats placed five runners in the top 10 and all seven in the top 20 of the 120-runner field to win the team title with an impressive 30 points. Beaufort (52) was second, followed by May River (57).
May River’s Colin Keck (16:30) and Jaxon Beebe (16:45) were third and fourth, while Beaufort seventh-grader Gavin Moore (17:00) rounded out the top 10, and Eagles teammates Charlie Bennett (17:23) and Connor Eby (17:25) placed 12th and 13th.
