4M Metals Lowco Girls Basketball Spotlight (Feb. 4, 2020)

Each week throughout the high school girls basketball season, we recognize the standouts from the previous week’s action with the Lowco Girls Basketball Spotlight presented by 4M Metals.

We select an offensive and defensive player of the week, as well as a Team of the Week, and highlight the biggest game of the upcoming week.

Here’s this week’s installment of the Lowco Girls Basketball Spotlight presented by 4M Metals.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

May River Sharks (2-0 last week, 13-5 overall)

The Sharks made it through the first round of the Region 8-3A schedule unscathed and are off to a great start the second time around, sitting at 6-0 in region play. They’ve won eight straight and are undefeated in 2020, and they have the pieces to make a deep run in the postseason.

GAME OF THE WEEK

Beaufort High at HHIHS, 6 p.m. Friday

It’s quite likely the outcome of this one will determine which of these teams goes to the playoffs and which calls it an early spring next week. Each team has just one region victory, putting the Eagles and Seahawks in a tie for the third and final automatic playoff berth from Region 7-4A. The loser might still be in the running for an at-large bid, but a win will remove the guesswork and anxiety.
