Each Monday (or Tuesday) throughout the high school wrestling season, we recognize the standouts from the previous week’s action with the Lowco Wrestling Spotlight presented by Candor USA.
We select two Wrestlers of the Week — one in the lower weights (106-145) and one in the upper weights (152-285) — as well as a Team of the Week, and highlight the biggest match of the coming week.

LOWER WEIGHTS WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
Gary Bayne, BHS
The Eagles’ 106-pounder went 3-1 with three pins against some tough competition at the Chief Classic on Saturday in North Myrtle Beach, helping Beaufort finish third in the eight-team dual tournament.
UPPER WEIGHTS WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
James Dagin, BHS
It’s an Eagles sweep this week, as Dagin ran through the competition at the Chief Classic with first-period pins in all four of his matches. The Eagles’ 160-pounder is 15-3 on the season with all three losses coming to returning state placers.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
Beaufort High Eagles
From top to bottom, the Eagles put out a solid performance in North Myrtle Beach, backing up their No. 5 ranking in Class 4A. Beaufort went 3-1 in duals, beating Stratford (54-21), Fairfield Central (70-6), and Loris (70-12) and only losing to eventual champion Carolina Forest, the No. 14 team in Class 5A, in a tough 44-33 decision.
MATCH OF THE WEEK
Coach Trap Memorial Duals at Battery Creek, Friday and Saturday
Battery Creek will be the epicenter for some of the best wrestling in the state this weekend, as the Dolphins host the Coach Trap Memorial Duals. All five local public school teams will be in action, along with some of the top teams from throughout the state, starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.
