The local contingent of golfers held up their steady play in difficult conditions during the final round of the Class 4A girls golf state championship Tuesday at Shipyard Golf Club on Hilton Head Island.
Host team Hilton Head High matched its first-round score of 378 to maintain its position and finish sixth. Daniel (638) ran away with the title, beating runner-up Wren (690) by 52 shots. AC Flora (722), Belton-Honea Path (723), and Myrtle Beach (738) rounded out the top five, followed by the host Seahawks (756).
Beaufort High’s Izzy Stone, competing as an individual, also held her ground on the leaderboard. Stone began the day tied for sixth after opening with a 79, and that’s where she finished after carding an 84 in the final round.
Hilton Head High’s Alexia Milbrandt matched her first-round 88 to finish 14th, while teammate McKenzie Bradley (89-91) was 19th, Grace Weismantel (98-100) tied for 39th, and Eliza Jane Coulter (103-107) was 50th. Bridget McMahon rounded out the Seahawks’ lineup with a 99 on Tuesday as a substitute.
