HSFB: See who was named this week’s RBC Heritage Player of the Week

You could have made a strong case for any of the nominees for this week’s RBC Heritage Player of the Week honors, but we can only crown one.

In fact, our panel of local sports journalists made the case for three different players, and a fourth picked up the online fan vote, illustrating just how many strong performances there were in Week 3.

My personal vote went to Bluffton’s Rakim White, who had eight receptions for 180 yards and two touchdowns and an 88-yard kick return TD in a 47-14 win over Hanahan, but Bobcat Nation turned out for his teammate, as Kylan Simmons took the fan vote with 29.2 percent of the vote after rushing for 106 yards and three TDs against the Hawks.

Our other three panelists were feeling the Rebel love this week, with Thomas Heyward’s JR Patterson (134 rushing yards, TD; 37-yard TD pass; 2 tackles, INT, PBU) picking up one vote and quarterback Peyton Bennett getting two votes after we was 12-of-17 for 275 yards and four TDs in a 44-7 win at Hilton Head Prep.

If you’re scoring at home, that’s two votes for Bennett and one each for White, Simmons, and Patterson. And that makes Bennett, who also finished second in the fan vote with 16.3 percent, the RBC Heritage Player of the Week.

Congrats to Thomas Heyward’s Peyton Bennett and thanks to everyone for voting.
