Hilton Head High rallied for four runs in the sixth inning to claim an 8-7 win at South Aiken on Thursday in the opening round of the Class 4A Lower State baseball tournament.
Colin Gross tied the game with a two-run single in the sixth, and Stratton Pollitzer and Kyle Markowitz drew bases-loaded walks later in the inning to give the Seahawks an 8-6 lead.
The Thoroughbreds pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run at third and the winning run at second with two outs before Hunter Julseth recorded a game-ending strikeout to nail down the save.
Jeff Hays went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, Matt Mebane was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, JR Richardson was 2-for-4 with a double, and Pollitzer drove in two runs for the Seahawks.
JJ Mlodzinski earned the win, allowing seven runs (three earned) over 6 1/3 innings with four strikeouts.
The Seahawks (20-8) will host Midland Valley for a second-round game Saturday with the winner advancing to the Lower State championship round.
