May River’s boys made quick work of another challenger Thursday, dispatching visiting Waccamaw 9-0 in the second round of the Class 3A soccer playoffs.
Mikey Chappelear recorded his second consecutive hat trick — all in the first half — while Conner Golden added two first-half goals, and an own-goal gave the Sharks a 6-0 halftime lead.
Chris Pineda, Ethan Frye, and Adrian Villalon each added a goal in the second half.
Matthew Turner and Sebastian Orlando combined for two saves to preserve the clean sheet, as May River’s defense shut down Waccamaw’s attack.
May River (17-3-1) will host Academic Magnet for the Lower State semifinals at 1 p.m. Saturday.
