Beaufort High kept alive its hopes of a Region 7-4A title with a 4-3 home win over Colleton County on Monday.
The Eagles built a 4-0 lead through three innings and held off the Cougars’ late rally to pull within one game of Colleton County for the region lead. Beaufort must sweep the three-game series to claim the region title.
Essence Champion went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs, Madison Sanchez was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, and Kylie Rast was 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Eagles.
Lillian Bearden earned the win, allowing three runs (one earned) with eight strikeouts and six walks in a complete game.
The Eagles (6-8, 5-2) travel to Colleton County (9-3, 6-1) for the second game of the series at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
