Hilton Head High’s track and field team got the season off to a solid start Saturday at the Adidas Lowcountry Invitational, as the Seahawk girls finished fifth and the boys placed sixth.
Whale Branch placed ninth in the girls standings and the boys were 10th, while Bluffton’s girls were 11th and the boys were 13th.
Sam Gilman (3200, 9:53), Isabel Muehleman (1600, 5:32), and the girls 4×800 (10:11) all won titles for the Seahawks. Zach Waters posted runner-up finishes in the 110 hurdles (15.81) and 400 hurdles (1:00.83), and Kaitlyn Holland was second in the pole vault (9-6) and third in the triple jump (33-4). Max Baez (800, 2:05.59) and Sarah Cooke (3200, 12:16) also had runner-up finishes, and Logan Seifert was third in the 3200 (10:31).
Makhi Spencer won the discus (115-6) to lead Whale Branch, and the girls 4×100 relay was third (51.99).
Bluffton’s lone podium finish came from John Sutay, who was third in the 1600 (4:52.11).
