Hilton Head High’s boys highlighted the local contingent with a fourth-place team finish at the prestigious Bojangles Track Classic in Columbia over the weekend.
Athletes from more than 203 schools from throughout the southern U.S. and as far away as Barbados competed in the 27th annual event.
Sam Gilman led the way for the Seahawks and was named the top distance runner in the meet after winning the 3,200 meters in 9:09.71 – the sixth-fastest time in meet history – and anchoring the 4×800 relay to a runner-up showing in 7:53.
Josh Williams placed third in the mile (4:19.98) and Ryan Moosbrugger placed seventh in the 3,200 (9:26.87), and the duo joined Gilman and Max Baez on the 4×800 relay.
Hilton Head High’s girls had three scoring performances, as Tori Herman was fourth in the 800 (2:16.32), Isabel Muehleman was fifth in the mile (5:13.08), and Herman and Muehleman teamed with Mallory Liggett and Sarah Neville to finish seventh int he 4×800 (9:53.27).
Beaufort High’s boys had two scoring performances, with Reggie Jones Jr. finishing fifth in 400 hurdles (56.11) and Isaiah Parker fifth in the shot put (51-6.5), and May River’s Cathryn Roberts placed fifth in the pole vault (11-6).
