HS Baseball: Sharks Rally Late To Take Series From Bobcats

May River baseball rallied for an 8-3 win over rival Bluffton in the rubber match of a three-game region series Friday.

Josh Patterson went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs, Cooper George was 3-for-4, and Logan Wake and Jeffrey Hodge each had two hits and an RBI for the Sharks.

Kamryn Gleason allowed three runs (one earned) and six hits over four innings, walking six and striking out one. Wake struck out three in 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win, and George closed the door with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Griffin Yeager’s RBI single gave Bluffton a 1-0 lead in the first, but Patterson singled home Tater Goodson and scored on Hodge’s single to cap a two-run bottom of the first and give the Sharks a 2-1 lead.

The Bobcats took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth when Joe Dicarlo and Noah Simonsen drew bases-loaded walks, but the Sharks answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Patterson doubled home George and scored on Wake’s triple to reclaim the lead, and Josh Reddy added an RBI single to score Wake.

May River tacked on three insurance runs in the sixth with the aid of an error and a passed ball.

The Sharks (7-2, 2-1) begin a three-game region series against Battery Creek with a road game at 7 p.m. Monday. The Bobcats (3-4, 1-2) open their three-game region series against Ridgeland-Hardeeville with a home game at 7 p.m. Monday.
