Joel Fleek scored a career-high four goals to lead May River boys’ soccer to a 7-4 win at Wade Hampton to open region play Friday.
Conner Golden added two goals and two assists, and Chris Hernandez scored on a penalty kick and assisted on another goal for the Sharks, who snapped the Red Devils’ 24-game home winning streak.
Golden opened the scoring in the 11th minute off an assist from Mikey Chappelear, and Fleek scored his first goal of the night five minutes later to give May River a 2-0 lead.
The Red Devils cut it to 2-1 in the 24th minute, but Fleek scored his second off an assist from Golden in the 28th minute to make it 3-1 at halftime.
Wade Hampton scored its second goal in the 42nd minute, but Golden answered with his second just four minutes later.
The Red Devils cut it to 4-3 in 50th minute before Hernandez scored on a penalty kick in the 55th to make it 5-3. The Sharks scored an own-goal to make it 5-4 before Fleek put the game away, scoring the final two goals in the 70th and 79th minutes.
Tony Rodriguez had five saves in the win.
The Sharks (10-1, 1-0) host Ridgeland-Hardeeville in another region match at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.
