The May River girls cross country team claimed a runner-up finish and Bluffton was third at the SCHSL Class 3A state championships Saturday at Sandhills Research Center in Columbia.
The Sharks edged the Bobcats by 15 points for runner-up honors with the help of three All-State runners. The May River trio of Emma Peluso (20:24), Victoria Sosa (20:27), and Madison Lewellen (20:34) came across the finish line eighth, ninth, and 10th, just ahead of Bluffton’s Perla Jimenez (20:38), who joined them on the All-State team with a 12th-place finish.
ANDREWS LEADS MAY RIVER BOYS TO 3RD
The May River boys finished third overall, while Bluffton was 11th.
Owen Andrews finished 14th in 17:14 to lead the Sharks and earn All-State honors, while teammate Jaxon Beebe (17:42) was 20th and Cody Corbin (17:44) was 22nd.
Armando Jimenez (18:06) led the Bobcats, finishing 35th overall.
