The Hilton Head Island High School boys cross country team skipped the Beaufort County Championships this weekend in search of stronger competition – but they still were hardly challenged.

Sam Gilman, Joshua Williams, and Ryan Moosbrugger were the first three runners across the line, leading the Seahawks to an eight-point win over host Riverside – the top-ranked team in the state in any classification in this week’s SCTCCCA coaches poll – in the Starlight Reservation Run on Friday in Greer.

“I think we’re ranked fourth in the state right now, and we know we’re No. 1,” Gilman told SCRunners.com. “We showed it today.”

Gilman completed the 5K race in 15:45 to claim the individual title, 19 seconds ahead of Williams and 21 ahead of Moosbrugger. Corbin McKinney (17:05) was 16th, and Colton Thune (17:26) rounded out the scoring in 27th.

Maximillian Baez (17:42) was 36th, Palin Kayser (17:46) was 39th, and Jasper Reinhardt (17:57) was 56th.
