The USCB women’s soccer team took No. 8 Keiser to double overtime before suffering a 3-2 defeat in its Sun Conference opener on Saturday at Fin Land Field.
The Sand Sharks opened the scoring on all-time leading scorer Hayley Piña’s sixth goal of the season in the 18th minute, with assists from Rileigh Olsen and MJ Orduna, but the Seahawks answered in the 37th minute on a Fillippa Millqvist goal.
USCB again took the lead in the 54th minute when Elin Sturesson finished a pass from Hannah Salus for a 2-1 advantage. Keiser answered quickly, though, as Emma Holmskov scored in the 59th minute to tie it.
The Sand Sharks had opportunities to net the game-winner in regulation and in the first overtime period but couldn’t finish, and the Seahawks ended it on Riley MacLeod’s goal in the 116th minute, denying USCB a deserved result.
USCB (3-2, 0-1) hosts Warner for a Sun Conference match at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
