HS BTEN: Seahawks sail by Bengals in season opener

Hilton Head High boys tennis didn’t waste any time getting into the meat of its schedule Tuesday, as the Seahawks opened the 2022 campaign with an impressive 5-1 home win over Region 7-4A rival Lucy Beckham.

Alex Ruckno and Brent Geist both won tough 6-4, 6-4 matches in the top two singles spots, and Grant Pagatpatan, Stefan Russell, and Fisher Cavanaugh followed suit with straight-sets wins to sweep the singles courts.

The Bengals earned their only point at No. 2 doubles in a closely-contested two-set match.

HHIHS (1-0, 1-0) was rained out Wednesday but will be back in action Thursday at Bluffton, weather-permitting.
