HSBSB: HHCA hitters lay into Lions for lopsided win

Hilton Head Christian Academy baseball used a 10-run third inning to soar past visiting St. Andrews on Thursday, routing the Lions 16-5.

After both sides traded a run in the first inning, St. Andrew’s grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third on a fielder’s choice. But the Eagles responded with a monster inning in the bottom half, erupting for 10 runs on six hits including a single and double in two at-bats for Dylan Clark.

The Lions continued to battle with two runs in the fourth, but Hilton Head Christian Academy’s offense kept coming with five more runs to extend the advantage to 16-4 before closing out the run-rule victory in the fifth.

Ben Eddy started for the Eagles and earned the win, going three innings and allowing three runs and four hits with four walks and one strikeout. Walker Mikkelson pitched the last two frames, giving up two runs on one hit with five walks.

Clark was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs, and Jackson Lanier and Keene Reese each went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs to lead HHCA at the plate. Morgan Bedenbaugh added a two-run double.

Hilton Head Christian (6-1) plays at next-door neighbor Bluffton on Monday.
