HSBSB: JPII’s Putnam no-hits Bridges in three-inning rout

John Paul II baseball delivered a complete effort in its season opener Thursday, blanking Bridges Prep on the road 16-0 behind a three-inning no-hitter from Ross Putnam.

The Golden Warrior sophomore was terrific on the mound, allowing no hits through three frames while striking out six batters and walking three.

Eighth-grader Roman Collela shined in his varsity debut behind the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs alongside two RBI. Peter Hughes was 2-for-2 in the leadoff spot with two walks while scoring three times, and Rance Jennings had a productive 1-for-1 day with two runs scored and two walks.

John Paul II (1-0) travels to Thomas Heyward on Tuesday.
