HS GLAX: Eagles show progress vs. powerhouse Bengals

Beaufort High girls lacrosse couldn’t keep pace with region powerhouse Lucy Beckham at home Thursday, falling 19-3 to the Bengals.

Both teams got off to a slow start, and Holland Perryman beat the keeper low to put the Eagles on the board, but the Bengals found their offensive rhythm late in the first half and opened up a 10-1 advantage at halftime.

Sophia Pellegrino added a pair of second-half goals for the Eagles, and Julia Pollitzer and Thalia Moultrie played strong defense for Beaufort. Shelby Holstein started in goal and recorded six saves against 16 shots.

“This was a big step forward for the Beaufort program against Lucy Beckman,” Beaufort coach Jim Smith said. “Last year we only had the ball in their zone once the whole game.”

Beaufort (0-3, 0-2) travels to River Bluff on Saturday for a non-region game.
