May River boys lacrosse dominated crosstown rival Bluffton at home Thursday night, rolling to a 15-5 win.
The Sharks were in control from the opening faceoff, building a commanding 10-1 halftime lead. The Bobcats opened the second half scoring, but May River rattled off five goals in a row to start the running clock and sent in the subs. Bluffton scored three goals in the fourth quarter for the final margin.

Brooks Van Esselstyn led the way for the Sharks with six goals and four assists, while fellow junior Whitt Beebe added two goals and five assists. Senior Andrew Dromsky notched two goals, while Nathan Kamer, Jacob Bollinger, Reece Simonson, and Jake Ridgway all added a goal apiece. Bollinger and Ridgway also had one assist each.
Defensively, the Sharks were fierce, pressuring the Bobcats into 37 turnovers. The Sharks combined for 23 caused turnovers, with defenseman Caleb Tkaczyk leading the way with four, while Bollinger, Trevor Murdaugh, and Destin Tkaczyk added three apiece.
“I think this was our best game overall this year,” Bollinger said. “We were consistent throughout the game and we’ll need that for Monday. We’re excited to go play Hilton Head next week.”
The Sharks were quickest to the ball all night, collecting 64 groundballs, and the faceoff unit had an excellent night, as Alex Dunton went 7-for-8 and Dave Lavery went 7-for-10 at the dot. Brooks Van Esselstyn went 1-for-1, and Kuron Green secured an important faceoff after a man-down goal by the Sharks.
Senior Corbin Wiltse was strong in goal, saving 72 percent of the Bobcat shots.
“Great team win by our guys, especially after not playing to our potential the last two contests,” May River coach Tom Dyer. “What we’ve been working on in practice has finally started to translate to the game. Our guys are excited about tonight’s win, there was a big crowd for the game, and it is a testament to how much the game has grown in the area since we opened up six years ago.”
The Sharks (4-1, 2-0) next travels to Hilton Head High for a key region clash at 7 p.m. Monday. Tickets are available on the Hilton Head Island Athletics webpage. The Bobcats (2-2, 0-2) host Beaufort High at 7 p.m. Monday.
