HS GLAX: Bengals pull away from Seahawks after halftime

Hilton Head High girls lacrosse put up a stout defensive effort in the first half, but the Seahawks couldn’t contain reigning Region 7-4A champion Lucy Beckham after halftime, falling 14-8 in Mount Pleasant.

The Bengals took a 4-3 lead to halftime, but Hilton Head’s Ella Christie quickly tied it after the break. After Lucy Beckham edged back ahead by two goals, reigning All-Lowco Player of the Year Anna Ferrebee answered to pull the Seahawks within one, but the Bengals reeled off five straight goals to put it away.

Ferrebee scored four goals, Christie added three, and Ashley Ames tallied one for the Seahawks. Kayla Fergus and Blackshear Coker each scored four goals to lead the Bengals.

The Seahawks (1-1) host region rival James Island on Wednesday.
