Lowco Hoops Live: Saturday, Feb. 19

Lowco squads were back at it Saturday in the second round of the SCHSL boys playoffs and the opening round of the SCISA boys state tournament, and we’ll be tracking the action throughout the night with Lowco Hoops Live.

Two Lowco public school teams were looking to advance to the Lower State semifinals, while four SCISA squads from the Lowco tipped off their postseason journeys. We’ll post the finals and brief synopses as we get them throughout the night and have full recaps Sunday.

SATURDAY, FEB. 19

SCHSL 4A boys

West Florence 92, Beaufort High 78: The Eagles rallied from a 20-point deficit to take the lead in the fourth quarter, but they ran into foul trouble and the Knights closed it out at the foul line in a frenetic game. James Dennison scored 21 points, Jake Alvarez added 19, and Zyrin Odom contributed 17 in their final game at Beaufort, and Michael Dennison added 14 for the Eagles (15-6).


SCHSL 1A boys

Hannah-Pamplico 49, Whale Branch 46: AJ Singleton scored 11 of his game-high 18 points in the third quarter as the Warriors pulled even going to the fourth, but the Raiders edged away down the stretch to end Whale Branch’s season with a 17-8 record. Keith Chisholm added 10 points for the Warriors.


SCISA 3A boys

Hilton Head Prep 27, Laurence Manning 22 (OT): The Dolphins outfoxed the Swampcats’ strategy to shorten the game, as JJ Hayes scored 15 points and HHP held Laurence Manning to seven field goals and sealed it at the foul line in overtime to win a wacky opening-round game.


SCISA 2A boys

Calhoun Academy 63, Thomas Heyward 55

Pee Dee Academy 55, John Paul II 33

Beaufort Academy 64, Northside Christian 44: Sully Gay poured in 23 points and pulled down double-digit rebounds, Braydon Dineen added 13 points, and Amarion Wilson scored 10 as the Eagles cruised in their playoff opener. BA (32-7) will face Spartanburg Day at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Cardinal Newman.
