It’s a little different version of Lowco Hoops Live as we embark on the February Frenzy of the high school basketball playoffs — and we’re opening it up to everyone. Lowco teams had mixed results on the opening night of the SCHSL girls basketball playoffs, going 3-3. One more girls team and five boys squads tip off their playoff journeys Thursday, and we’ll post the scores and brief recaps as soon as we get them.

THURSDAY, FEB. 17
Crestwood 42, Battery Creek 31
South Aiken 52, May River 49: The Sharks let a 10-point halftime lead slip away as the Thoroughbreds rallied behind 21 points from Delwin Hodge. Garvin Douglas and Gavin Blocker each scored 13 points for May River.
Hartsville 54, Hilton Head High 50 (OT): The Seahawks came up short in overtime on the road in a rematch of last year’s Lower State championship game.
Beaufort High 57, North Myrtle Beach 49: The Eagles held off a strong challenge from the Chiefs, as “The Firm” of Dennison, Dennison and Odom posted a trio of double-doubles. Michael Dennison racked up 14 points and 20 rebounds, Zyrin Odom collected 14 points and 10 boards, and James Dennison finished with 11 points and 15 rebounds, while Anderson Jones added nine points to earn Beaufort a home matchup with West Florence at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Whale Branch 54, Hemingway 49: AJ Singleton scored 19 points and Queashawn Fields added 10 as the Warriors survived a scrap with the visiting Tigers to advance to a second-round game at Hannah-Pamplico on Saturday.
Johnsonville 71, Bridges Prep 51: The Buccaneers couldn’t keep pace in the first playoff game in program history, falling to the Flashes on the road. Zaire Nelson scored 18 points and Damien Bee added 14 to lead Bridges.
