May River girls basketball closed out the regular season with its second consecutive win Thursday, beating visiting Beaufort High 38-27.
The Sharks got out to a sluggish start, trailing the Eagles 9-2 after one quarter, but they were able to settle in and take a 16-15 advantage going into halftime. May River pushed the margin out to five by the end of the third quarter and pulled away in the fourth.
Morgan Scott scored 16 points, Brooke Dalton added 10, and Morgan Kronimus had nine to lead the Sharks. Kronimus hit a pair of 3-pointers and Dalton added one during the second quarter, when the Sharks outscored the Eagles 14-6, and Dalton scored five points in the fourth while Kronimus went 3-for-4 at the line to help seal it.
Kylie Brozek scored 10 points, Quinn Wilson added seven, and Riley Brozek contributed five in the Eagles’ season finale.
The Sharks (8-13, 4-8) tied for fifth place in Region 7-4A but lost a tiebreaker to Colleton County for the last guaranteed playoff spot, but May River has been awarded an at-large berth to the Class 4A playoffs. Beaufort (4-16, 2-10) has concluded its first season under coach Dominique Cureton.
