HSBBB: HHCA stuns JPII for signature win

Hilton Head Christian Academy boys basketball has been knocking on the door of a signature win for a couple of weeks, and Jason Grunkemeyer’s team finally busted through the doorway Tuesday night.

Isaiah Anderson scored 20 points and Qayden Turner added 18 to lead HHCA to an impressive 57-35 win at John Paul II to knock the Golden Warriors out of the running for the top seed in the SCISA 2A playoffs.

The Eagles’ size and athleticism were a problem for JPII all night, and HHCA took advantage early, building a 16-5 lead after one quarter and extending the margin to 15 going into the break. JPII kept within striking distance in the third but couldn’t close the gap.

Turner banged in four 3-pointers, including three during the red-hot first quarter, and Anderson dominated the undersized Warriors inside. Wells Sharp added eight big points for HHCA, including a pair of threes.

Mark Knight scored 18 points, and Jackson Ogden added 10 for JPII.

HHCA (7-12, 4-6) hosts Thomas Heyward on Thursday in another region matchup. JPII (10-7, 6-5) travels to Bridges Prep on Wednesday.
