HSBBB: Cougars can’t keep pace with Allard, Bengals

Colleton County boys basketball couldn’t find an answer for Lucy Beckham’s Malin Allard on Tuesday, as the Bengals junior poured in 26 points in a 70-51 road win in Walterboro.

The Cougars were down four after the first quarter and scrapped to stay within double digits at the break, trailing 29-20 at halftime. The Bengals broke it open in the third and cruised to their third straight win to stay in the race for third place in Region 7-4A.

Mykeem Gant scored 13 points, and Adam Bucker added 12 for the Cougars, but the Bengals were able to limit leading scorer Deshaun Blocker to just four points.

Rowan Irelan scored 17 points to go along with Allard’s 26 for the Bengals.

CCHS (5-11, 1-7) travels to Hilton Head High for another region matchup Friday.
