May River’s young squad gave their crosstown rivals a fight in the first half, but Bluffton girls basketball continued its Region 7-4A dominance with a strong second half in a 45-30 road win over the Sharks on Tuesday.

The Bobcats haven’t lost a region game since 2019, but they found themselves in a fight early, leading by one after a sloppy first quarter and clawing out to a 20-15 advantage at halftime. Sophomore star Tacoya Heyward proved too much for the Sharks to handle, though, pouring in 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting with six rebounds and seven steals as Bluffton pulled away after the break.
Madi Washington added six points and nine boards for the Bobcats, and fellow sophomore Ja’lania Mosley contributed four points, nine rebounds, and four steals. Bluffton dominated the glass, outrebounding the Sharks 34-6.
Morgan Scott led May River with nine points, while Macey Dowe and Kennedy Palmer added six each.
Bluffton (9-1, 3-0) hosts Colleton County on Friday, while May River (5-6, 1-2) steps outside region play to host Ashley Ridge on Friday.
