May River girls basketball closed out the calendar year with a solid road win Thursday, beating Hanahan 42-28.

The Sharks set the tone with a terrific defensive effort in the first quarter, running out to an 18-6 lead after the first period and maintaining the 12-point margin through halftime.

The Hawks clawed back within 32-27 heading to the fourth quarter, but May River was able to clamp down and hold Hanahan to one point in the final stanza to close it out.
