HSGBB: Seahawks banged up, beaten in Holiday Classic opener

Hilton Head High girls basketball was stymied by a terrific Spring Mills (WV) squad Monday, dropping its Seahawk Holiday Classic opener 59-24.

The Cardinals started the game strong on a 20-5 run behind seven first-quarter points from Olivia Bolduc. Hilton Head High battled back to cut into the lead but suffered another big blow when senior forward Anna Genova limped off the court and was helped into the locker room, adding to a mounting list of key injuries.

After going into halftime up 29-15, Spring Mills exploded for 26 points in the third quarter, including 14 from Kilah Dandridge. The Cardinals showcased their stifling defense in the second half, holding the Seahawks to just nine points in the final two quarters.

Dandridge poured in 18 points for Spring Mills, and Bolduc posted 14 points. Alandria Kennedy led the Seahawks with seven points, and Gianna Timko added six points while shooting a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line.

Hilton Head High (4-6, 0-2) plays Eastside in the consolation bracket on Tuesday.
