HSGBB: HHCA can’t hold off Hammond in OT loss

Hilton Head Christian Academy girls basketball allowed an 11-point halftime lead to slip away and fell 69-65 in overtime to SCISA 3A opponent Hammond on Monday in the Hoffman and Hoffman Holiday Classic.

The Eagles pulled out to a 33-22 halftime lead but watched it slowly evaporate as Hammond’s Tyra Myers took control. Myers scored 21 of her game-high 31 points after the break, and the Skyhawks capitalized on some shaky HHCA ball-handling to close the gap.

HHCA’s Jaida Grayson hit a pair of free throws to put the Eagles up three with 30 seconds left in regulation, but Hammond’s Anna Adams hit a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left to force overtime.

Tamya Hutchinson led HHCA with 21 points, while Abby Peduzzi added 15, and Skylar Smith had 11. Devon Yarde and Grayson each added eight for the Eagles.

HHCA (1-1) faces Chapin High at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
