May River’s boys rolled past their crosstown rivals Monday in the Earl Campbell Preseason Tournament at Whale Branch, beating Bluffton 60-41to advance to the championship game.
Fresh off his spectacular football season, Garvin Douglas dropped 23 points in his season debut, including 11 in the second quarter to give his Sharks a 33-23 halftime lead. May River rattled off an 11-4 run in the third quarter before finishing off the 19-point victory.
Douglas was phenomenal from the free-throw line, making 11 of 12 shots from the stripe. Gavin Blocker scored 15 including three buckets from beyond the arc, and Josh Evander put up 10.
DJ Aiken led the Bobcats with 11 points, EJ Graham reached double figures with 10, and Nick Yanez added eight.
May River (2-0) faces Region 7-4A foe Hilton Head High in the championship game on Tuesday.
Bluffton (1-1) plays Bamberg-Ehrhardt on Tuesday.
