HSVB: Five Lowco squads begin SCISA state tourney Friday

Five Lowco area teams will begin their quest for a SCISA volleyball state title Friday at the Myrtle Beach Sports Center.

Hilton Head Prep earned a spot in the 12-team SCISA 3A bracket and will face Hammond School in a first-round match at noon Friday. The winner will advance to face Porter-Gaud at 1:30 p.m. with the loser dropping into an elimination game at 5 p.m.

A quartet of area squads will represent the Lowco in the 16-team SCISA 2A bracket, including a pair of No. 1 seeds. Hilton Head Christian Academy drew one of two top seeds in the upper bracket and will take on Orangeburg Prep at noon, while Beaufort Academy is a No. 1 seed in the lower bracket and faces Williamsburg Academy at noon.

John Paul II drew a No. 3 seed in the upper bracket and faces Shannon Forest at noon. If both JPII and HHCA advance— or if both lose — they would square off at 3:30 p.m. The same is true with BA and Colleton Prep, which is a No. 3 seed in the lower bracket and faces Palmetto Christian at noon in a first-round game opposite the Eagles.

Class 3A teams will play two games Friday and Class 2A teams will play three, narrowing the bracket to the final eight teams in each classification for Saturday’s play.
