HSFB: Dolphins blank OP for pivotal region win

With a potential playoff spot on the line in Orangeburg, Hilton Head Prep’s dynamic duo stepped up.

Loncelle Daley exploded for 204 yards on the ground, and Jake Rodney-Brown dominated on both sides of the ball as the Dolphins blanked Orangeburg Prep 26-0 on the road Friday to bolster their SCISA 2A playoff chances.

After a scoreless first quarter, Rodney-Brown put the Dolphins in front in the second with a powerful 5-yard touchdown run. The senior found the end zone again before halftime, reeling in a 14-yard pass from quarterback Tristan Bonomo to take a 14-0 lead into the break.

Hilton Head Prep’s passing game continued to shine in the second half, as Bonomo found AJ Barger for a 5-yard score and a 21-0 advantage. The defense was phenomenal all night long, and Rodney-Brown capped the stellar showing off with a fourth-quarter safety. Senior kicker Trevor Weldon nailed a 29-yard-field goal before the defense sealed the shutout victory.

Daley was unstoppable at running back, racking up 204 yards on 29 carries. Rodney-Brown was a beast all across the field, scoring a rushing and receiving touchdown while adding five tackles, two sacks, and a safety. Despite being without top receiving threat Gunnar Askeland, Bonomo was terrific at quarterback, completing 5-of-9 passes for 61 yards and two touchdowns.

Hilton Head Prep (5-2, 1-1) hosts winless Northwood Academy on Friday and can clinch a playoff spot with a win.
