Battery Creek 30, Academic Magnet 20: Jeremiah Dilbert rushed for 162 yards and a TD, and Dreshaun Brown scored on offense and defense to lead the Dolphins to a big road win in the Region 8-3A opener Thursday.
Beaufort High 38, Hilton Head High 14: Amariee Morris rushed for three touchdowns, and Beaufort’s defense pitched a second-half shutout after Jaylen Sneed ripped off two early touchdown runs for the Seahawks.
May River 35, James Island 18: Garvin Douglas rushed for three TDs and threw a long touchdown pass to James Layman, and the Sharks’ defense put together another strong outing to open Region 7-4A play with a win.
Bluffton 55, Colleton County 30: Max Vonhohenstraeten threw six TD passes — three each to Jaylin Linder and Kenton Frazier — as the Bobcats scored 49 points in the second half to rally from a 24-6 halftime deficit and stun the Cougars in their season opener.
Timberland 43, Ridgeland-Hardeeville 0: The Jaguars didn’t find much success on the road against the undefeated Wolves, dropping their Region 6-2A opener.
Whale Branch 31, Cross 14: Kai’Shawn Jenkins threw a TD pass and rushed for a score, and Jakhi Pusha scored on the ground and through the air to lead the Warriors to a bounce-back region win.
Beaufort Academy 42, Hilton Head Prep 10: The Eagles scored 28 unanswered points and shut out the Dolphins in the second half for a key region win on the road.
Hilton Head Christian Academy 48, Pinewood Prep 14: Jace Blackshear threw three TD passes and rushed for a score, and Joseph Robinson had a rushing touchdown and a punt return score to power HHCA to a blowout win over the Panthers.
Thomas Heyward 46, John Paul II 6: Brandon Howard had a monster game on both sides of the ball, as the Rebels dominated from start to finish in an impressive home win.
Colleton Prep 38, Bethesda Academy 0: Drew Murdaugh and Cole Davis each scored a pair of touchdowns, and Gus Warren and Noah Catterton anchored the defense as the War Hawks blanked the Blazers on the road.
