HSFB: Lowco First Down – Week 2

There wasn’t much action under the Friday night lights in Week 2, as six of the 10 high school football games originally scheduled around the Lowco were canceled due to COVID-19 protocols.

Nonetheless, there was yet another border clash involving Beaufort High, Thomas Heyward opened region play, Hilton Head High made its season debut, and Colleton Prep picked up its first win.

We’ll have full recaps and video highlights later this weekend, but here’s your first glance at the Week 2 action in the Lowco First Down:

Beaufort 33, Benedictine 23: Tyler Haley tossed a touchdown pass to Zyrin Odom and added a pair of 1-yard TD runs in the fourth quarter, and Beaufort’s defense slowed down another Peach State powerhouse to lead the Eagles to a 3-0 start.

Thomas Heyward 22, Dorchester Academy 7: Dietrich Shuford threw a touchdown pass to Brandon Howard and ran for a score, and Tony O’Banner added a TD run as the Rebels overcame a sluggish start to score 22 unanswered points and win their home opener.

Lower Richland 35, Hilton Head High 6: Chase McCracken’s touchdown run brought the Seahawks within 7-6 in the first quarter, but the Diamond Hornets pulled out to a 21-6 halftime lead and blanked Hilton Head High in the second half.

Colleton Prep 59, Northwood Academy 12: After being shutout in their first two games, the War Hawks’ offense broke out in a big way in a rout of the Chargers.
