HS BSOC: Seahawks can’t dig out of early hole vs. region champ Trojans

Hilton Head High boys soccer fell short in its quest for revenge against James Island on Thursday, suffering a 2-1 road defeat as the Trojans clinched the Region 7-4A title.

It was a quick start for the home side, as James Island netted a pair of first-half goals to take a 2-0 lead into the break.

Changing the formation in the second half, Hilton Head answered with a beautiful diving header from senior Alan Leyva on a Geo Gutierrez assist to make it a one-goal game. But an ejection later in the half stymied the Seahawk momentum, and James Island saw out the 2-1 victory to win the region championship.

Hilton Head High (11-3, 8-2) begins its playoff run on the road Tuesday as the No.2 seed out of Region 7-4A.
