HS SB: Sharks slam Seahawks, stay on course for title clash with Cougars

May River softball continued its crash course toward a region title showdown next week with an 11-1 win over visiting Hilton Head High on Friday.

The Sharks jumped on the Seahawks for four runs in the first and tacked on five in the fourth before closing it out early with a two-run fifth.

Casey Laing was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs, and three runs to lead a balanced May River offense, as eight Sharks recorded at least one hit and six drove in at least one run.

Ana Carabello drove in two runs, Giovana Rodriguez and Ruthie Roman each had a triple, and Caroline Sapochak and Reilly Wake added doubles for the Sharks.

Rodriguez was dominant in the circle, striking out eight and allowing just one run and one hit, an RBI single from Jayden Lopko. HHIHS star Reagan Marchant, who had homered in four consecutive games, walked in both of her plate appearances and scored the Seahawks’ lone run.

May River (11-6, 8-0) travels to Colleton County on Monday in a matchup of two remaining undefeated teams in Region 7-4A. The Sharks will host the Cougars for the series finale Wednesday.

The Seahawks (2-13, 0-10) travel to Colleton Prep on Tuesday.
