Whitley Weathers turned in another strong outing and Sydney Howard had a big night at the plate to lead Colleton County softball to a 12-4 win over visiting Bluffton on Thursday.
The Cougars broke open a tied game with seven runs in the fifth and tacked on four more in the sixth to quell a Bobcat rally.
Howard went 2-for-4 with a homer and a triple and drove in three runs to lead six Cougars who recorded multiple hits. Bailey Cox was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, Weathers was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, Maggie Kennedy was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, and Makayla Chisolm went 2-for-4 and drove in a run. Shandi Brown added two hits and scored twice from the leadoff spot.
Weathers struck out 11 and did not issue a walk over seven innings, allowing four runs (three earned) and 10 hits.
Olivia Harrison was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs, Katie Ryan had two hits and an RBI, and Sydnee Poliquin added two hits for the Bobcats. Parker Ray matched Weathers for four innings, allowing just one run, before the Cougars caught up to her in the fifth.
Colleton County (8-0) was back in action Friday with a non-region game at Cane Bay.
Bluffton (6-4) plays a region game at Beaufort High on Monday.
