Thomas Heyward baseball got the offense rolling on Monday, fending off Hilton Head Christian Academy 11-7 at home.
The Eagles opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the second inning, but Thomas Heyward responded with nine straight runs including a five-run second to go up 9-3. An RBI-groundout in the fifth got a run back for HHCA before Thomas Heyward added two more in the sixth to extend its advantage.
The Eagles got a rally started with singles by Keene Reese and Wells Sharp along with a Jackson Lanier steal of home, but Peyton Bennett picked up a strikeout to seal the Rebel win.
Leadoff hitter Dietrich Shuford shined for the THA offense, going 2-for-3 and driving in a pair of runs. Nick Wise was 2-for-4 with a triple, while Jeremy Clemmer and Brody Crider drove in two runs each.
Zane Wilson claimed the win on the mound, allowing just two earned runs in four innings with six strikeouts. Wise was strong in relief, surrendering just one hit in a pair of frames.
Jace Blackshear and Lanier led Hilton Head Christian Academy at the top of the order with a pair of hits each.
Thomas Heyward (9-7, 6-4) hosts Bridges Prep on Thursday.
HHCA (5-10, 2-7) faces Memorial Day at home Tuesday in its first game on its new on-campus field in Bluffton.
