Hilton Head High softball notched its first victory of the season on Tuesday, using a late scoring surge to top visiting Wade Hampton 17-7.
Each squad scored three runs in the first inning before the Seahawks took control with five in the second to go up 8-3. The Red Devils responded with four to cut the lead to just one, but Hilton Head High dominated the rest of the game with nine unanswered runs including a Reagan Marchant homer to claim the run-rule victory.
Marchant was unstoppable at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a triple, a home run, and three walks while driving in a trio of runs. Leah Jackson, Jayden Lopko, Delcie Swift, and Zoey Jackson collected two hits apiece with Lopko racking up three RBIs.
Shaina Lugo was terrific in the circle, throwing the final 2 2-3 innings in perfect fashion.
Hilton Head (1-10, 0-9) faces the Red Devils again on the road Friday.
