HS TEN: Undefeated Dolphins sweep doubleheader in Beaufort

Hilton Head Prep boys tennis showed off its depth in a rare doubleheader sweep Wednesday, beating Region 7-4A leader Beaufort High 8-1 before bringing out an entirely different lineup in a 5-1 win over Beaufort Academy.

The Dolphins handed Beaufort High its second loss of the season — both at the hands of HHP. Graeme Angus won an ultra-competitive three-set match at No. 1 singles for the Eagles’ lone victory, but the Dolphins won four of the remaining five singles matches in straight sets with Drew Rukavina, Leo Nedkov, Nick Rose, and Jack Barney sweeping through their matches. Alex Zhu outlasted Joseph Combs in three sets at No. 6 singles for the clincher, and HHP took all three doubles courts.

It was more of the same against BA, as Robert Hagen, Nick Calamari, Thomas Dowe, Alston Adams, and Beckett Jones each won in straight sets for the Dolphins. BA’s Jack McDougall earned a three-set victory at No. 2 to avoid the sweep.

HHP (10-0) wraps up the regular season at Porter-Gaud on April 20.

BHS (7-2) looks to continue its unbeaten run through region play at home against Hilton Head High on April 20.
